Miss Earth United States 2011
Nicole Kelley

My name is Nicole Kelley and I am 22 years old. The road here has been a long and interesting one but it would be nothing without the support of my family and friends. I am very honored and humbled to be the new Miss Earth United States and am ready to get this year started.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Florida, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Food and Resource Economics specializing in International Policy. I also received 3 minors in Spanish, International Development and Humanitarian Assistance, and Agriculture and Natural Resource Law. Previously, I attended Flagler Palm Coast High School where I graduated as part of the first class of International Baccalaureate scholars in our school. There I also had the honor of participating in the National Honor Society, the FFA of which I was the president for 2 years; I also was part of the Leo’s club, and the Student Government Association. I have also been dancing for about 17 years now and have learned much about myself as a result. One day I hope to be able to use all of this to advocate for our US Agriculture industry as an international trade policy lawyer. Now that I have graduated I am excited that I will be able to use the knowledge that I gained throughout my university experience to fuel my passion and develop my platform and title throughout the US.

I know that the only way to represent my title is to be a spokesperson for my community. Through the development of my platform Food for Thought I want to be an effective role model and give some perspective to the important environmental issues that our world is facing today. Agriculture education is becoming less and less important in American society and what our farmers do is taken for granted on a daily basis. With alarmingly high rates of child obesity in America my platform includes demonstrating healthy options for children to choose, and the education to prove to them why it is important to have a healthy diet. Teaching children how to grow a small plant which they can then turn into a small garden allows them to learn responsibility, and how to provide for themselves, as well as the importance of the benefit those plants provide to the environment. During WWII “victory gardens” helped families survive the tough times, now that our economy is in a downturn again families have turned back to these same principles. By educating our youth it provides them to share the information with their families. The Miss Earth Organization is proud to support the environment through many different avenues. This to me shows that Miss Earth is dedicated to the future generations by leaving a legacy of service, scholarship, and support of mother earth. Agriculture education should be a part of that legacy, to encourage our youth to make better decisions in their future lives. If I can positively affect the life of even one child and encourage them to be informed about their American agriculture industry, then I feel I have done my job.

I truly feel that the only way to feel a part of a community is to go out into it and make a difference. In November I hope to make my family and community proud as I will be representing the United States at the international Miss Earth competition. I plan to prepare as much as possible to make my mark among the many talented and beautiful girls that I will compete against.

When I am not doing appearances or working, I enjoy spending time at the beach in my home town, camping, or pretty much doing anything outside. I also enjoy shopping, going to baseball games and learning how to sew. I have a very busy schedule, but it keeps me sane!

Evan and Sandra, thank you so much for making these pageants what they are, it truly has been one of the best experiences for me and I am so excited and proud to be part of your team. To all our past sister queens without your help and participation this pageant wouldn’t be what it is. Thank you! To my new sister queens, I am very excited to have you at my side, I know you all will make me proud!

Stay Glamorously GREEN!!

With love,
Nicole Kelley
